You've probably not heard about this delicious place, but don't be discouraged.

It was a bit of a drive out to the Meridian Court in Cool Springs the night before last, but it was worth the time and gas. It was my birthday and my friends decided that we should celebrate in style--Cajun style apparently. I have to say, they were right!

If you like a good kick of Cajun or enjoy your food caught from the shore, then this may be your new place. They claim to have the "best tail in town", at least that is what their shirts say.

MAFIAoZA'S By: Nicole Hamilton

Most of you are probably already sitting alongside me on this Mafioza's wagon...but for those unlucky ones who have not heard yet, or just those who need a reminder for one of the best local pizza places: write this down.

MAFIAoZA'S is a "Nashville Original" restaurant: locally and independently owned, it bands together with other restaurants of the same ilk to promote individuality and sustain visibility and community. They even buy a lot of their produce from a nearby farm in Kentucky - karma loves them. So for all of us who see the slightly more pricy farmer's markets and locally designed clothes thinking we would love to support them were we not in college and struggling just to [go out to] eat, here's your chance to chip in!

We know we all love Mexican food. We all eat way too many chips, and then continue on to eat everything on our plate, and feel really good about it because it is just so good. Sometimes it can be difficult to make one Mexican place stand out from another, but Taco Mamacita goes beyond the standard. Only the second location to open, (the first being in Chattanooga) the married pair and owners, Taylor and Mike Monen put their creative genius together and produce a Tex-Mex incomparable to many others.

Restaurant Review: Sam & Zoe's

SAM&ZOES.jpg
If you're looking for a coffee shop that most people don't even think to work at where you can study, read, surf the web or visit, then you may want to take a step next door from Baja Burrito.

Sam & Zoe's is a small, quaint restaurant in the Bransford/100 Oaks district that offers a nice array of dining choices. You have the option to eat in their dining room or take a cup of coffee out on their covered front porch.

Their menu contains what any coffee/sandwich/soup shop would have. They offer many choices of bagels and breakfast food as well as soups and sandwiches that give Panera a run for their money.

How could we forget that this place is a coffee shop? You won't be let down trying all of their different blends and home-brewed java.

If you're looking for a place that's away fro your usual routine choices, then give Sam & Zoe's a try: you won't leave hungry, thirsty or disappointed.

Nostalgia comes in all forms, but arguably none better than fine, classic, American dining. Johnny Rockets, 5 and Diner, sometimes Sonic, are all examples of eateries where you can enjoy a burger, chili cheese fries and a shake, all the while singing your favorite doo-wop song.

However, all those places are nationally run franchises that rarely get that expierence right. The food is good. The drinks are delicious. But the sincerity and sentiment is just not there.
Well, before you start singing "I Played The Part of A Fool," you might want to try one more place that is quite a bit more authentic.

When you're hungry, and Subway and Panera have lost their touch, do your stomach a favor and take a bite from a dish at Bread & Company.

Review by: Emily Harrell, Lipscomb junior

Driving around in Berry Hill yesterday, I happened upon a neat little place called the Pfunky Griddle. As a huge fan of breakfast food, I made a note-to-self to stop back by very soon. The opportunity arose later that night when a friend and I were scouting out a place for dinner.

It lived up to its name giving a funky little vibe and griddles in the middle of every table. It was a little empty around dinner time. I guess everyone else isn't as avid brinner lovers as I.

Jackson's

A favorite to many Lipscomb students, Jackson's is located in the quaint area down 12th Avenue before you hit Vanderbilt: Hillsboro Village. The restaurant's seating is mostly outside, but you can request to eat in if need be. We recommend eating outside so you can enjoy people watching and feel a true part of the Village Scene. The food is of an eclectic assortment, from croque monsieurs to torrados (lightly grilled wraps) or pasta, to their famous cookie dough egg rolls or butter cake. Although the atmosphere is appropriate for simple chats and dessert, don't skip out on a full meal at Jackson's or you'll be sure to regret it!
PM.jpg

PM is a restaurant located not 5 minutes from Lipscomb University on Belmont Boulevard. This is a local place that specializes in quality cuisine and great service. You can either eat outside or dine in the interior--either way, the food doesn't suffer from location. WuLU suggests to try their burger, which was marinated in some type of teriyaki sauce with a wasabi mayo, or their made-on-the-spot sushi (we suggest the Miami). The food is reasonably priced, almost a better choice than a restaurant chain. We suggest you try this place late on a Friday night, which seems to be the perfect time to go. PM is most definitely a quality place in which to add to your local favorite dives.

Most people say that Pizza is hard to come by. And when we're talking Pizza, we mean good, local, authentic, non-restaurant-chain Pizza. Well, Nashville has a little gem that you may not know about.

This place is located in the downtown Arcade. This place has retail, restaurants, candy shops, art galleries, office space, drug stores and a post office. If you have never been, you ought to take a day and go wander around the Arcade. It's a blast.

Manny's House of Pizza feels like a dive, well, because it is. The environment is exciting, a little sketchy too. The food is incredible and reasonably priced. Their pizza sauce is incredibly rich; better than Papa-Johns and Pizza Hut (yes, it's a bold statement).

Arguments aside, this place is great. It gives a different take on the vibe and culture of Nashville. Being in the heart of downtown, you are likely to see an assortment of people. Make sure you go with a friend or two to make it an enjoyable meal.
What could be better than going to see an exhibition at an art museum in a beautiful city in the heart of its downtown? Having a nice and delicious lunch post-seeing an exhibition at an art museum in a beautiful city in the heart of its downtown.

The Cafe at The Frist Center for The Visual Arts off Broadway is a great, affordably-priced joint that is convenient for museum goers or even those who aren't looking to see art but need a place to eat.

Restaurant Review: 417

Downtown has so much to offer. Especially fine cuisine. Sure there are your typical Panera's, Wendy's, Burger King's, McDonald's, and other chain places. But the mark of a fine city's cuisine, are those spots that don't offer you a combo packaged deal and possess an immense amount of personality and heritage.

417 offers just that.

"Take, me out to the ball game, take, me out to the crowd. Buy me some peanuts and cra-cker jacks, I don't care if I ever get back!"

Well, I'm sure most of you would like to go back, and I'm also sure most of you are craving either nachos, peanuts, cracker jacks, ice cream or a hotdog.

You're in luck. If you're in Nashville, close to Vanderbilt, Hillsboro Village and the Historic Belcourt Theater, then don't fret: a hotdog is as close as the 7th inning stretch.

mexican.jpgWhen you get a craving for some cheap and delicious Mexican cuisine, your first inclination is probably to head on over to Mazatlan or maybe Jim's Nachos. When WULU started hankering for some fajitas this weekend, we decided to be a little adventurous and went to Las Cazulelas instead. Las Cazulelas is a relatively new Mexican restaurant at the corner of Nolensville road and Harding Place. Tucked away in a non-descript strip mall, you've probably driven past this fine little establishment many times without giving it a second thought.
