» Metro might be putting ads on school busses! This could make lots of money for the city, apparently. So - maybe we will put our face on the side of a school bus? ..Or maybe not..

» Mmm we are LOVING this pre-fall weather, rain or not! Just incase you need to catch up on what's in store for our skies here in Nashville, we've supplied the weather forecast! (via WSMV)

» That's it. Brooks and Dunn have performed their last show together, and in honor of that we're watching a few videos on YouTube and bringing out the tissues.

» The Titans beat the Saints! Alright! (We get prouder of our city every day!)

» Spiders are scary. Enough said.

Good morning, LU! It's Thursday and we're gearing up for our holiday weekend! Here's the Roundup.

» Belmont is participating in a campaign hosted by Donald Miller, where the school distributes envelopes of money to random students in hopes that the students will give the money to someone else or a good cause. ...That means they aren't allowed to use it for skinny jeans, eyeliner, or hair gel.

» Everyone knows that the Adventure Science Center isn't just fun for kids, we may be in college but we know a good time when we see one! Lucky for you, Regions is hosting a Free Day to enjoy their activities, and it's on September 12th! (Now would be the time to ask that cute freshman girl out!)

» Giving blood helps give lives back to people, which is good and all, but it also qualifies you for a $1,000 gas card this weekend! The American Red Cross donation center is hosting a blood drive this weekend, so go participate, give life, and hopefully win $1,000 bucks!

» We have a new kid in town, but we think he's pretty sweet. That would be the House of Blues Studio D, which is a fully-equipped recording studio that was originally in Memphis but hasn't been doing so hot, so it officially moved here yesterday. Say hello, bake him cookies, and maybe sign a record deal? Whatever the case, make the place welcome!

» Be careful if you're heading downtown this afternoon. A perfect traffic storm is brewing, with the combination of a Titans-Saints game at LP Field and the Brooks and Dunn concert at Bridgestone Arena (not to mention the Opry Country Classics show at the Ryman). So basically, just avoid downtown altogether and you'll probably do yourself a favor.

We hope everyone got to witness the madness and awesomeness of yesterday's Convocation with President Lowry. Not only were there the usual (but never disappointing) bagpipes, but there were tasteless Belmont jokes (whoops) and the grand entrance (or was it an exit..?) of the Baja Minicar that won 12th place in the nation at their competition over the summer. So. All of that to say, if yesterday's Convocation was any indication of what this year holds, well, bring on the fun!

» An earthquake struck yesterday in East Tennessee. Luckily the worst of the damage was broken picture frames, and everyone is still feeling great over there!

» Music City Bowl tickets go on sale today! The bowl will include "a matchup of teams from the Southeastern and Atlantic Coast conferences." (The City Paper)

» Well, President Obama announced that the missions in Iraq are officially over. While those on our soil are relieved, some Iraqi-Americans are a little apprehensive about what this means for Iraq.

» Well, folks, that's a wrap for the credit card companies on campus. Thanks to the Credit Card Act of 2009, companies soliciting credit cards are no longer allowed to invade our campuses and trick us with free goodies. Freedom feels nice.

» At a gubernatorial debate last night, Nashville high school students proved well-informed and politically involved as they asked hard questions of the two candidates, McWherter and Haslam. Way to positively represent Nashville's high schools, boys!

» An update! The fire at the future mosque in Murfreesboro was NOT thought to be a hate crime (this is GREAT news). But there was a vigil held there yesterday, just incase.

» Firefighters in Nashville are planning a different kind of tribute for the 9/11 firefighters who died as heros. They plan to climb the steps of the Pinnacle Building downtown as many times as there were steps in the World Trade Center. This is so neat!

» The Commerce Secretary paid a visit to Music City yesterday and had a lot to say about music pirating and what the federal government is doing to stop it.

» We have a FAMOUS POGO-ER in our midst! Check out Dalton Smith, an eighth-grader who was recognized as one of the best pogo athletes at an event held in Utah. Alright!

» One more time, now: CONVOCATION. Today. 10:55am. Allen Arena. BE THERE! :)

Good morning, LU! It's the second week of classes - are we feeling exhausted yet? We hope not, cause we're feeling pretty pumped about being back! While you're enjoying your latte in Starbucks and catching up with your old roommate, check out the Roundup!

» We aren't encouraging anyone to drop out or anything, but the Tennessee Highway Patrol is looking for new State Troopers. Sound fun? You're welcome to apply! (But like we said, STAY IN SCHOOL!)

» Some (dumb) people set the construction equipment for the new mosque in Murfreesboro on fire over the weekend. Come on, guys. We thought those hate crime days were well behind us.

» Did you see the Emmy's did you see the Emmy's did you see the Emmy's?!!! (If not, you can check out a slideshow here!)

» After a man was told twice that his place of work didn't have his paycheck yet, he barricaded himself there and threatened to shoot his boss. The lesson to be learned? Don't withhold paychecks from crazy employees. (Somehow we don't think this is a lesson that will be very useful for us...)

» Oh yeah.... did you know that we hired a bunch of awesome people over the summer to help with various institutes on campus? Well. Now you do!

» Don't miss Convocation tomorrow during the Chapel hour! It will be in Allen Arena, so make sure you're there! Let's be honest - who doesn't love the bagpipes and crazy robes?!

Good morning, LU. Okay. Take a deep breath. This is our last Thursday of the summer, so we're trying to make it count. Here's the Roundup!

» Sometimes things occasionally happen outside of our Nashville world. And although we don't report much on these things, today we just can't help ourselves. If you love burgers and social media, we have just the restaurant for you! 4Food is a new burger joint that lets you create your own burger and then everytime someone buys that burger, you get points on social networks, eventually earning you a free meal! How fun!

» We're pretty glad that it's cooling off today, but these floods have just. got. to. stop! There is a river flood warning today in effect until tomorrow at 7pm, so keep your tears and sweat to a minimum in an effort to keep our raging Cumberland at bay!

» That's right, folks. You've heard the rumors and it looks like they've been verified. Have you ever parked at Stokes and wondered what is inside that old building? Well, we might be able to find out soon - particularly our education students as they will be housed in the old Stokes school building if Lipscomb purchases it as supposedly planned.

» Julia Green is starting to incorporate iPads into their kindergarten classes, or at least are planning to. So this begs the question... where are our iPads?! We're in COLLEGE!!

» The flooding yesterday prohibited the Music City Star from passing between Mt. Juliet and Lebanon and all passengers were picked up by bus. This rain is just scary. At least our gardens will be growing.

Rain drops keep fallin' on my head... Good morning all you lovely Lipscombites! As much as we need this rain, I don't enjoy driving in it, so I hope it doesn't stick around very long!

» Because of this rain, two Middle Tennessee counties were forced to close schools because roads were flooded. Can't say I blame them, we're all scared after this.

» Speaking of the flood, Metro Council passed a bill stating that a part of the city's hotel taxes will go towards helping the Grand Ole Opry get back on it's feet after sustaining $20 million in damages after the May floods.

» If you were like the billions of people in the world obsessed with the World Cup this year, you might be interested to know that Nashville is in the running to be a host city in either 2018 or 2022. Unfortunately not many know we're up for it, so sign this petition here and let your friends know too!

» Love fashion? Or funky glass sculptures? Or just looking for a cheap way to impress a date? Head out to the Frist on Thursday or Friday nights through September 12 and check out the fabulous Golden Age of Couture or whimsical Chihuly exhibits on display for free (with your college ID)!! I promise you'll win some brownie points with the ladies. ;)

» And finally, if you needed any more reasons to be even more proud of going to Lipscomb, we were just ranked among the top 18 universities in the South due to many new programs and our ever expanding campus!

Good morning, LU! Today begins the official countdown until classes start. (Drum roll, please.) Seven days left! But while you're still enjoying your summer, here's the Roundup!

» FINALLY we can satisfy that hankering we've been having for fresh food! The Nashville Farmer's Market reopened last Friday and we're pumped!

» Well gee, WSMV, thanks for the shout out and feature of our freshmen! We do have a great class coming in this semester, and one we're really proud of! Welcome, newbies!

» Nashville's popular homeless newspaper, The Contributor, is growing and picking up speed! Next time you see a vendor selling one, be sure to pick one up!

» Uhh... two bombs exploded outside of the White House, Tennessee, police station. We're not going to pretend this is no big deal.. we're a little freaked out!

» Well, folks, the freshmen are rolling in and the Pharmacy students are buried in books. Their classes officially began last week and hey, guess what! It's the biggest class ever! (We think that means we're doing pretty great..)

Good (late) morning, LU! This is your second to last Friday before classes start, so soak it up and enjoy every last drop! Here's the (late) Roundup.

» It's a little out of the way, but if you're just itching for a bike ride and, alas, have to bike to ride.. fear not! Metro just began a bike sharing program where you can borrow a bike for free to use at two locations. Hurray for bike rides!

» For your last week of summer, maybe you could visit a national park? Too much money? Nope! Over one hundred national parks (some in the great state of Tennessee!) have free entry this weekend, so head over for a hike after your free bike ride!

» If you don't follow politics, you can skip this and go on to the next. But if you're interested, the Haslam vs. McWherter debate that is scheduled soon is already taking questions, so send 'em in! Also, Yarbro has officially requested a recount after losing to Henry by only a handful of votes.

» Three cheers for Gaylord announcing that they will begin rehiring those they had to let go after the flood! It is speculated that about 80% of the old employees will be rehired.

» If you're already planning on that bike ride or hike, here's the weather just so you can prepare yourself accordingly.

If you haven't heard of the 48 Hour Film Project (...before the Morning Roundup...), it's an awesome event that happens here in Nashville. This year, some of our creative students got together to form a team and compete. Their film, "The Accidental Kidnapping of Ellie Minors" is premiering tonight at the Belcourt.

Jake Morgan, a member of this particular 48 Hour Film Project team, wrote an awesome blog post recapping what his team experienced through this process and everything he learned. Check it out here, and go out and support tonight at the Belcourt!

» We aren't the only ones who the heat is getting the best of. According to Metro Animal Control, four dogs have already died due to lack of water and shade. If you're concerned about an animal you see, call 615-862-7928 to report it.

» Looks like Justin Bieber liked what he saw in Nashville, and wanted to help what he may not have seen. After his concert, Bieber donated to the flood relief efforts in Nashville that are still underway. Thanks, Bieb!

» The Jonas Brothers have challenged Kings of Leon to a softball game. This is something we've GOT to see.

» The 48 Hour Film Project is screening all of the entries at The Belcourt tonight. We've heard rumors that several LU students participated, so we're really hoping you guys will go support!

» Fisk University, as most of us have heard, is in financial trouble. So they decided to sell their Georgia O'Keefe collection which was asked of O'Keefe to never be sold. Now they're saying that if they don't sell at least half of the artwork they will be forced to close the university due to finances. Hmmm...

» By the way... have you SEEN the new Hughes Center lately?! Not only is it almost complete, but it's beautiful - and we are excited to see what it will all look like when it's finished!
