Alright. So we're getting used to the rain, right? But that doesn't mean that we have to love it. You'd better get your raincoats and umbrellas ready... it looks like another rainy weekend.

Good morning, LU! We're having a little TGIF party here at WuLU, and we hope you are enjoying your Friday as well. In case you're wondering what's going on in Nashville, here's the Roundup!

» Paul McCartney is coming to Nashville!!! Tickets go on sale June 7th at 10am! So get ready!

» Many of us know that Tent City, a local homeless "village," was washed away during the flood. The residents have recently been relocated to Antioch and the Antioch locals aren't too fond of this idea..

» The 101st Airborne Division returned home yesterday, and we are grateful to them for their service and sacrifice! Welcome home!

» So... apparently Opryland has flooded before? And has a history of this?

» Welp, the Senate overrode the governor's veto of the "Guns in Bars" bill. So. This means we can take the guns we don't have into the bars we don't go into? Great!

Watch out for this mini-sinkhole that opened up on Granny White recently. They are directing traffic around it, but be safe and slow down while passing until they have it repaired!
Good morning, LU! One day in the work week left, we can do it! Take a minute to sit back, relax, and enjoy the Roundup.

» Have you seen the new public art? If not, you should check it out... we've heard all sorts of rumors.

» We may have had a historic flood... but at least we didn't have a historic tornado season!

» We are grateful to all the inmates who saved our water supply! Some worked 36 hours STRAIGHT shoveling sand, and they were happy to help.

» We know you have places to be for Memorial Day, but don't go crazy... cops are keeping an extra eye on speeds this weekend.

» FEMA has approved several million dollars for flood relief and victims in Middle Tennessee. Thank you, FEMA!

Check out Avalon. It's just across campus and it's worth a visit if you've never been. David Lipscomb and his wife actually lived here, and it's still used for events and luncheons.
Good morning, LU! It's hump day, which means we're halfway over the hump and it's all downhill from here! Here's the Roundup.

» We hope you tuned into Hulu last night for a live stream from the benefit concert at the Ryman. This kicked off the Opry's 85th birthday party!

» Some flood victims are being treated by Southwest to free flights so they can take a vacation! We love this sense of community. (But we do not love floods.)

» Good news! Gas prices may be dropping as a result of the European financial crisis. We. Love. This.

» The Green Hills YMCA is reopening! Everyone can start losing the flood weight!

» Today is a national day of prayer, check it out!

Good morning, LU! Alright. We're on week three of the summer... hope you're making the most of it! Here's the Roundup.

» Congratulations to the record-breaking month of May 2010! Hip, hip, hurray?

» If you've had a hankering for Dollywood recently, visit this week and Dolly is giving all of the proceeds from ticket sales to flood relief!

» The sinkhole of I-24 has been repaired, but check out these photos... pretty scary.

» There are 2,000 flood related jobs available in the area. This is a lot. So if you're looking for a job (that pays), there are lots!

» Pick up from flood debris is costing $9,000,000 and may not happen for a little while. But at least it'll happen sometime.

» Keep up with your Lady Bisons - they defeated UAB and are advancing to the NCAA tournament!!
softball_region.jpg

Congratulations and good luck to our Lady Bisons Softball Team who is playing today in the NCAA Regionals! We are thinking of you girls, and we hope you'll carry us far!
Good morning, LU! Thank goodness it is finally Friday!! Weekend plans abound, and so does the news! Check out our Roundup!

» Alright, LU. It's your time to shine. American Idol auditions are coming to Nashville this summer, so step up and show the rest of the world what you've got!

» Williamson County is looking at a new plan for its schools that would LIMIT HOMEWORK. Where were these people when we were in school? And can our professors follow suit, please?

» Alright, alright. So we can't afford this.. but who doesn't like house shopping for fun? Sheryl Crow is selling her very own Cross Creek Farm and it is pretty sweet!

» If you've been curious about how Opry Mills is coming along, you're not alone. And thankfully, now we can see!

» Wow, be careful on Facebook guys. 11,000 have already pledged to delete their accounts because of the access the Facebook admins give to outside websites to view your information.

Float Away

Well folks, I guess we won't be seeing much of this anymore.... since you know, it floated away during the epic flooding of the Cumberland. (We can't say we're too sad about this.)

UPDATE: Soo... we got this wrong. Apparently it didn't actually float away, but rather fell over. It seems that it has been repaired and is still in tact, unfortunately.
Good morning, LU! We're so close to this weekend... hang in there (unless your weekends are the same as your weeks in the summer...). Here's the Roundup!

» The wifi network downtown is growing, which is good news for anyone wanting to surf the web on a bench in the park!

» Check out all the prices they've put on damages in Nashville... it's pretty intense. But we are Nashville, and we are making it!

» And.... more rain. Ugh!

» Check out the Belcourt's recent showing of "Movies Save Mountains" which is helping raise awareness of the mountain top removal happening in Appalachia. It's a great cause, and it looks like a great movie, too! (This is only happening today, so hurry!)

» Tonight at 7pm Fido is hosting "Science Cafe: The Search for Planet Earth." A forum on science, galaxies, and the possibilities of space!
bushhlaurah.png
We hope all of you enjoyed Laura's visit to Davis Kidd last night, it was PACKED but we heard it was well worth it.
Good morning, LU! We've made it to hump day and we hope you're enjoying it so far. Now, enjoy the Roundup!

» The Nashville Symphony was asked to play at Carnegie Hall next Spring. That's exciting!!

» If you lost your pet during the flood, the deadline to find them through the shelters is coming soon - and many unclaimed will need homes!

» Watch out for the sinkhole! What is this world coming to?!

» And check out the other entries for Doodle for Google... they're kind of amazing and some of the kids are six!

» We're having some pretty prestigious people visiting for our Christian Scholars conference, including the playwright of the popular play Doubt.

It seems that rain and clouds are becoming the norm here in Nashville. And unfortunately, it looks like we should get used to the clouds.... since most of the next ten days are supposed to be partly cloudy.
Good morning, LU! Guess what? Vince Young, Jack Johnson, Tina Fey, George Strait, and Pope John Paul II all have or had birthdays today! Woo! Here's the Roundup.

» In more flood news, our Senator Cooper is double checking to make sure that the Army Corps of Engineers didn't cause the flood by releasing too much water. ... So what happens if they did?

» We are getting a beast of an organic store downtown! Seriously... this is exciting.

» One of our very own alumni was recognized as a top emerging composer by American Composers Orchestras Earshot program. Hurray!

» Laura Bush is visiting Davis Kidd today! Go see her!

Thanks to Nashvillest for compiling a growing list, you can find all restaurants who are participating today in Eat Out for Nashville. Basically, if you eat at one of these restaurants today 50% of the proceeds will go to a fund to help with all the flood relief. We think this is a great cause, so enjoy some good food tonight and help Nashville rebuild itself!
Good morning, LU! Happy Monday and second week of summer! While you're sipping your lemonade by the pool, enjoy our Roundup.

» A big thank you to Macy's and Belk's amongst other stores who are offering major discounts for flood victims. That's what we like to see!

» If you haven't seen this yet, the Charlotte Pike Pep Boys have the flooding videotaped from their security cameras... and it's pretty frightening.

» And another, slightly more funny, video of flooding...

» When we say "beware of bears" we MEAN beware of bears. This person was not.. and got BITTEN!

» Who says that dogs can't raise cats?

Oh boy we can't wait to catch this action this summer. Feel free to visit campus, it may be empty but it is still as beautiful as ever! Especially with the trees and swings and flowers and warm air... We hope to see you around!
Good morning, LU! We hope your Thursday is going as well as ours is, and we hope you enjoy the Roundup!

» Uhhh... here's a sobering thought. Every time someone flushes the toilet in Montgomery County, the waste is directly dumped in the Cumberland because of the sewage plant being down. ...YUCKKK!!!

» Jerry Seinfeld is saving Nashville!

» Careful about the lettuce you're eating... it may be poisenous?!

» Laundry, laundry, laundry! Hip, hip, hurray!

» If you've ever wanted to see Will Ferrel play baseball.. well.. here's your chance!

While we have a lot on our hands here with the flood, keep Oklahoma in your prayers and thoughts. Several tornadoes ripped through on Monday, and there was a lot of devastation as a result. Read more here.
Good morning, LU! We hope you're enjoying your hump day so far, here's the Roundup!

» There is a bill that's waiting to be approved by our governor that would require extreme DUI offenders to breathalyze to unlock their cars before driving. We think this is awesome.

» The Titans are helping clean up after the flood, too!

» Keep conserving water! Despite rumors of our plant being fixed, it is still undergoing repairs and we need to continue conserving for what is estimated to be at least another week.

» For a recap on graduation and some pictures, we've got you covered.

» Last but not least, don't think we're out of the woods yet. Opry Mills isn't sure of its future... and that makes us sad.

Tonight at 7pm in Collins Alumni Auditorium, these handsome gubernatorial candidates will be answering your questions and enjoying each other's company.  The event is free, but If you'd like to attend make sure to register here.

If you've got some extra cash laying around (okay, who has that? We mean if you're willing to donate some cash to a good cause...), check out Tide.com/loadsofhope and purchase a vintage tide tee as shown above. All the proceeds help fund the Tide Loads of Hope project, and they are coming soon, so show some support!
Good morning, LU! Welcome to Summer 2010 (officially!). We're here to keep you updated on what's going on and let you know what's happening in Nashville on campus. Here's the Roundup!

» Amazing stories have been surfacing everywhere, and this one doesn't fall short. A ten-year-old girl was sucked through a 36-foot drainpipe and woke up on the other end completely fine. ...Woahhh.

» If you are desperate to do laundry but don't want to further the water crisis, prepare to wait in line and visit Tide Loads of Hope on Lebanon Pike this Wednesday! Thank you, Tide Loads of Hope!

» The governor is auctioning off "extra items" from his house. We're not sure what that includes, but it sounds pretty cool anyway!

» In the Smokies people are learning how to catch and release bees.... and studying them. Hm...

» Finally, don't worry about the rain today. There shouldn't be any floods (knock on wood).

This is a photo of 2nd Avenue and Broadway taken downtown by our Lumination staff here on campus. It is heartbreaking to see, but hopefully in the next few weeks we can continue to pull together as a city and get everything back to how it once was. After all, We Are Nashville!
Good morning, LU! We hope your exams went well, we apologize for the sabatical, we had some studying to do ourselves! So as your first official Summer 2010 Roundup - enjoy!

» If you have questions about flood-related things, the very informative Nashvillest blog has posted a helpful post on FAQs that have come up recently.

» Nashvillest has also made a list of local restaurants who are doing their part to conserve water and clean up Nashville. We encourage you to support these places!

» In other non-flood related news, John Rich keeps getting in trouble for his massive parties by Lover's Circle. Come on, John. Do you NEED the fireworks?

» Good news - even though the Clarksville grandma was a little crazy, Russia has decided not to cease adoptions in America! Hip, hip, hurray!

» On the national scale, southwestern Ohio is having some trouble with a pair of peacocks... saying they pose a "motorist" threat. Ha!

» Lipscomb is graduating their largest class ever this year! Way to go, LU!

Luckily we have some pretty talented students on campus who like to take pictures. Thanks to Anna Albonetti, a junior, she helped capture the weekend and we're here to give you a little taste of what it was like (you know, in case you were out of town or something).
Well. We hope you all survived the floods and are safe and sound where ever you are. We also hope you're enjoying the newly appreciated sunshine and with that, here's the Roundup!

» Good news: no rain for the this week. Can we get a hallelujah?

» In case you've been living under a rock, exams today are postponed and a new exam schedule has been made. Yeah, we know, we know, you have a flight scheduled that the new exam schedule interferes with but take that up with the provost - not your friends (or us).

» If you happen to see some wild bison... ahem, BUFFALO... they probably belong to Naomi Judd because hers escaped during the flood chaos. Oops!

» We have to put this on here, because it was probably the most dramatic and exciting news during the floods (in a .. tragic way..) but did you hear about the "house" (really a school portable) that floated down I-24? Woaaaahhh.

» Lastly, if you have some free time swing by the SAC and see if the Red Cross Shelter there needs any help! Last we heard we were at capacity and more people were filtering in. And if all else fails, we're the only pet-friendly shelter so maybe go play with the dogs?
