April 2010 Archives

ezell-web1.jpg

We took a vote and Ezell is the most popular study place on campus! Okay, we didn't take a vote, but come on, who doesn't know that Ezell is where you go to study? So. Enjoy Ezell!
Alright, LU. We hope exams are going well so far - and that your Dead Day was a good time to catch up and relax (and maybe study.. but who does that?). Here's the Roundup!

» Kid Rock is hosting the CMT Music Awards. We are ... apathetic ... about this?

» Did you know Brad Paisley went to Belmont? Yeah, while that's disappointing to us it's even more disappointing that he visited Belmont recently to speak to the students there. We're not jealous... We're not jealous...

» Be prepared.. there may be more weekend storms. (Uh oh.)

» Asian fish are taking over our rivers! Seriously.

» Note to self: If we're ever going to grow weed, don't do it in our window...

Well, here are some balloons, so go throw a party! It's finals time and classes are over. Only a week and a half until we're free for summer!
Good morning, LU! Happy last day of Monday/Wednesday/Friday classes! Enjoy your last day of whatever year you are, and enjoy the day off tomorrow!

» The coyotes are back! And they're eating pets!

» As shown this past weekend, Tennessee is now considered a part of "tornado alley" due to the number of fatalities resulting from tornadoes in Tennessee. We're not in Kansas anymore...

» A fish caught in Percy Priest broke a record! Hurray!

» The majority language in Tennessee isn't English anymore.. we're a melting pot!

» Marijuana is being considered again for medical use in Tennessee. They'd have to make it legal first, of course.

Photos speak louder than words? Yes, they do. But if we were to try and put words to this one we might say: "We beat you Nashville Predators."

Morning Roundup

» The Nashville Predators lost last night to the Chicago Blackhawk's (5-3). No more fang fingers. Anyone know when the Sounds start?

» Bellevue Mall (which is completely abandoned except for Sears) is in danger of getting torn down. So what's going to happen? IKEA? New library? New high school?

» Nashville Police Chief Ronal Serpas is taking a trip to his hometown of New Orleans to apply for the head of Police. Over the past six years, crime in Nashville has fallen due to Serpas' leadership.

» Oh, so that iPhone that was disguised as a 3GS that Apple claims wasn't the new iPhone 4G isn't a big deal? Yeah, tell that to Jason Chen. Read on

» Stephen Hawking is a genius. Simply put. We say that to say; Stephen Hawking believes it would be a bad idea to contact alien life.

» And finally, is this the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle's mask?

Wooooww. We hope none of y'all got caught in this monster on Saturday! It was a nasty one, but we're glad that everyone seems to be doing okay.
Good morning, LU! Well. We've made it. Just three more days of classes to go and we're home free! (Well... sorta.) As you bask in your happiness, enjoy the Roundup.

» For you Preds fans who have been following the playoff games closely, tickets are on sale for the next game! But hurry, they're supposed to go pretty fast.

» Uh.... Steve McNair was a sworn police officer in Mississippi? Yeah. How's THAT for a twist?!

» Princeton University recognized us as the only "green" university in Middle Tennessee, AND put us on a list of the few environmentally friendly universities across America. Woo!

» So this Nashville teen does ballet on the backs of horses. Sounds like my childhood dream...

» With all the storminess lately, we're providing the forecast today so you know what to expect. ...And that is light rain, clouds, and maybe some more light rain.
We apologize for the lack of posts this morning, things have been crazy. So to make up for it, we're giving you an extra-packed edition of our usual "This Weekend" post so you can thoroughly enjoy this weekend in Nashville, and maybe celebrate that your last full week of classes are over. Okay. Deep breath. Here goes!

FRIDAY

» Nashville's Stellashops blog is hosting a "Naked Without Us" Boutique crawl across Nashville. With prizes and discounts, this is sure to be a hit. Oh yeah, and who doesn't love live music? 5-8pm.

» Shakespeare in the Park is hosting it's "Biggest Ever Balcony Scene" tonight at Centennial Park. In our opinion, it seems like it would be worth checking out... 6pm.

» The Belcourt is showing "Straight Outta Hannibal!" - a movie celebrating Mark Twain's life and writings through song. We haven't seen it, but it kind of sounds like "Across the Universe" and the Beatles. Anyway, it's at 7:15pm if you're interested!

» TPAC is showing "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (the ballet) tonight and all weekend. Call for times.

Earth Day

Take some time today and thank mother earth for being so great to us. Go to a park. Take a bike ride. Play with some bees. Try and feed a deer. Anything to connect to mother nature better.

Morning Roundup

Just a friendly reminder: in t-minus two weeks we can enjoy the parks and streets and restaurants in Nashville as much as we want to! In the summer sunshine! Oh, boy, we're excited.
Good morning, LU! Happy Hump Day! This time next week we'll be going to our last classes of the school year!! Here's the Roundup!

» The Nashville MTA is getting more popular in Nashville, which is good. Maybe they'll start up more routes?

» Taco Trucks have apparently taken over Nashville... which we aren't too upset about...

» We're a little late on this one, but East Tennessee had a small earthquake a couple days ago. Everyone is fine, but, wow, where are all these quakes coming from?

» Uhh... YIKES. Women in Tennessee get an average pay that is $9,000 less than men per year. Girl power, anyone?!!

» Don't forget to check out the "Ethics in Action" Film Contest happening tonight in Shamblin at 7:30pm!

fscotts.jpgDuke Ellington, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, and F Scott's: just a few of the greats in jazz, but only one located in our beloved Music City. More specifically and even more locally to Lipscomb, one happens to be right around the corner in Green Hills. A local jazz venue unknown to most, it is the best kept secret for a relaxing night in, but also out.

F Scott's is tucked away off busy Hillsboro Pike in a world of its own. On one side a high-class restaurant (that I expect most of us cannot afford), and on the other side an open and exceptionally classy jazz venue. They feature live jazz performances every night with the exception of Sundays. The line up consists of some repeat artists and some varying. So you can find favorites and look for them on the website's schedule or check out as many different ones you as can.

iPhone 4G?

We know just about as much as you guys do. But this story is pretty juicy. Apple developer left the iPhone in a restaurant, it was disguised as an iPhone 3G, turns out its a new prototype?, Apple remotely wiped the phone, they want it back, etc, etc, etc. This is a techy-cloak and dagger-esque story. Either way: is this the new iPhone4G?

Morning Roundup
