In honor of it being the coldest February since 1979 and alternatively it actually being somewhat warmer today, here's some fun a Lipscomb student had in the recent snow recently. We love Lipscomb! And snow... but really snow, go away. We're ready for Spring.
Good morning LU! TGIF and TGIMR (thank goodness it's the morning roundup). Here it is!

» If you were outside at all last night you would know that it was FREEZING. Well, this is because it has been the coldest February since 1979.

» If your lemon Girl Scout Cookies stink, they may be the ones they have just recalled.

» Some people like to spend money on their cars. Rims, subs, etc. But if you've spent money recently on the hip new blue-tinted headlights watch out because they are illegal, and cops are giving tickets for it.

» Remember this summer all the hoopla about May Town Center? Well we followed it for quite a bit and we've still got news! It may be revived so stay tuned for upcoming updates.

» If you're a fan of Brooks and Dunn, their last show of their Final Rodeo Tour will be in the Country Music Hall of Fame pretty soon. Good luck getting tickets.

We know we all love Mexican food. We all eat way too many chips, and then continue on to eat everything on our plate, and feel really good about it because it is just so good. Sometimes it can be difficult to make one Mexican place stand out from another, but Taco Mamacita goes beyond the standard. Only the second location to open, (the first being in Chattanooga) the married pair and owners, Taylor and Mike Monen put their creative genius together and produce a Tex-Mex incomparable to many others.

» For you Strokes fans out there, frontman Julian Casablancas will be performing at the Cannery Ballroom in April.

» Hahaha, stinks to be in high school this semester. And in general.

» Lipscomb hosted a breakfast on campus yesterday that included a panel discussion about the newly approved Medical Mart downtown.

» Wow.

» This guy truly knows the definition of #olympicfail.

» And finally, here's a video of highlights from yesterday's breakfast.

» For those of you who keep up with the art market, we're sure you're ware of the Fisk/O'Keeffe battle. If not, google it. Yesterday, the state attorney general denied the collection be moved from the Fisk campus. #ArtUniversityfail.

» Would it be in bad taste to say that this incident might have been a positive learning experience in Astronomy

» Musicical instrument manufacturing giant KHS will be moving its headquarters to Mt. Juliet soon. Jupiter wind instruments, Mapex drums and Majestic concert percussion are just a few of the brands KHS owns.

» Marsha Blackburn was vocally upset at the state of affairs of the Toyota hearings in Washington yesterday.

» Good to know that Lebanon understands the importance of keeping your citizens alive

» And finally, this, as Relevant states, is good news for like, three people.

The writing will literally be on the wall soon when tire-mogul Bridgestone will commendere the real estate on the side of the Nashville Arena/GEC/Sommet Center, or, NAGECSC for short.

Morning Roundup

Back and forth, back and forth. We're tired of the weather not knowing if it's hot or cold: just make up your mind already! Here's the roundup:

» Well it seems as though Nashville-based Bridgestone will be the new sponsor for the Nashville Arena/GEC/Sommet Center. The name? Bridgestone Arena.

» Nashville tourism officials want to acquire more revenue streams into Nashville soon by hosting the Grammy's and the NHL All-Star Game.

» Last week, Federal ATF agents raided Sabre Defenses, a weapons manufacturer based in Nashville who holds many US Department of Defense contracts. It seems as if employees internally have been selling assets on the black market. Whoops.

» Metro Schools are looking at the school system in Memphis for ways to strengthen our education program.

» The FCC is up to it again. Apparently 93 million Americans are without Broadband internet. Now the FCC is wanting the Federal Government to figure out a way to help connect America to the internet.

» A wall in Israel proves that David was a king, and yes, he was rich.

» And finally, Josh Slater is making his aggressive push for the A-Sun player of the year award. Read why Slater is kicking butt and taking names.

ryan.jpgCongratulations to Ryan Bell who found our first Friday Find.  The prize, a powerful and state-of-the-art nerf gun, was found in the department of Kinesiology.  As the winner, Ryan will be sending us a clue about where to find this Friday's find which we will post on Friday morning.

The Lipscomb Office of Admissions spent this past weekend representing LU at Winterfest where they gave away a 26" LCD TV, a FlipCam, scholarships, and several Snuggies. We're not sure how effective Snuggies will be in recruiting future students, but it's safe to say that's a marketing tactic no other school is trying.
Good morning, LU! We hope all of you had a good weekend and are rested up and ready for another week of classes! Here's the Roundup!

» Lipscomb legend Don Meyer is planning to retire at the end of the year.

» Fifty dogs were rescued from an alleged puppy mill. The story kind of made us cry a little...

» In other news, car washes are doing well thanks to the snow!

» Be careful about the new credit card regulations that are coming out... apparently people are starting to get worried.

» Get gas cheaper before it gets more expensive again!!

» If you enter this contest by 11am, you could win Rascal Flatts tickets! For free! What are you waiting for?!

» The warm sunny air won't last long. And we're bummed about it.

Well, we're feeling awfully lazy, so the rundown for this weekend is going to be a bit truncated.  Here's what you need to know:

Tomorrow from 10am - 3pm is free pretzel day at Auntie Anne's.  Go to the mall and get you a free pretzel.

Done.

Feb19clue.jpgToday we introduce the Friday Find.  The Friday Find is when we give you a clue that will lead you to a prize hidden somewhere on campus or in Nashville (today's is on campus).  Today's clue is the picture above, and the prize could be very important to have considering some of the news in the morning roundup.  If you know where on campus you can find this picture, go there, and you'll be close to finding the prize.

Here's the catch.  Whoever finds the Friday Find provides next Friday's clue and prize, or at the very least finds someone who will.  If you find the Find, email a picture of yourself with the prize to editor@whatsuplu.com so we can post it and everyone will know that the hunt is over.  Today's prize is definitely something you'll be excited about, so start hunting!

JakePease.jpgYeah, it's fun to watch the Olympics, but wouldn't it be even cooler if you knew someone who was competing?  Well, Lipscomb volleyball player Jake Pease is trying to give us all the chance to say we do.  She's been invited to spend this weekend in Colorado trying out for the US National Team!  Good luck, Jake!

bladestrom.JPGCheck out this student produced video (by the Babbler staff we think) about one of Nashville's more unique traditions, the Sunday afternoon medieval melee.  Apparently the battle goes down most every Sunday afternoon at Elmington Park.

bid night.jpgBid Night photo by Hunter Patterson

Lots of excitement last night with a big win by the Bisons, a dart battle and another raucous bid night.

-The men's basketball team crushed Florida Gulf Coast last night, 93-75

-Apparently a campus nerf war was broken up by the Nashville police last night.  Sorry we missed it.

-We lost our oldest alumnus earlier this week.  G.L. Landiss was 100.

-The Hearts4Hunger campaign, led by our own LJS students, raised 47,000 meals for families here in middle Tennessee.  Great job guys!

-Don't miss this chance to pick on your friends from Memphis.  Forbes ranks Memphis the 3rd most miserable city in America.

Today marks the first day in a loooooooong time that the temperature was above freezing, which hopefully means, all of the frozen, then melted, then re-frozen snow chunks all around Nashville will melt. If not, they make a great salty-ice snow cone. Of course flavored dirt and feet

The sun is out. The US is leading the olympics in medals. We're almost to the weekend. Good morning we'd say. Here's the roundup:

» Spring is not so far away which means Summer is right behind. The 2010 CMA Music Fest lineup was announced today.

» Franklin's very own Paramore just released  their new video yesterday for their new single "The Only Exception."

» If you're feeling unhealthy and mad that you didn't keep your fit-new years resolution, just move to Williamson County. It's the healthiest in the state.

» Regions Bank is starting a new initiative by covering admissions to local museums to the public soon.

» Shady things are afoot at the Sabre manufacturing warehouse. ATF agents raided the warehouse and send all of the employees home. Sabre maintains many US Department of Defense contracts to manufacture weapons.

» They can't catch a break. Or make them without breaking. Fail.

» And finally, if a bill makes it through legislation, South Carolina could have heavier pockets. Literally.

Okay, if we're going to have the snow at least people are enjoying it! (Maybe not the guy on the bottom in this picture..) Here's to a winter that we will never forget!
Good morning, LU! It's pretty cold outside, but at least it's stopped snowing for awhile. Here's the Roundup!

» An age old debate has been brought to Tennessee, as legislators are trying to legalize marijuana for medical purposes. It would be sold for $60 and ounce... ouch!

» Remember when we suggested a White Castle date for Valentine's based on an article that named it as the hot thing to do this year? Well apparently now it's also getting married in White Castles. ...Fascinating.

» Get excited. Tennessee is home of a Little Debbie look alike! We're serious... she won a contest for it.

» Don't worry guys... You can leave your car running to get it warm now. It's officially legal.

We have had more snow this year than good news about our economy it seems. But that's okay because depending on how determined your teachers are to show up to class, you may get more days off than you anticipated. Snowball fight anyone?

Morning Roundup

Punksatony Phil was right: we are having six more weeks of winter. Who would rather be at the beach though? Here's the roundup:

» Metro has officially run out of snow days. They planned for five. Yesterday marked their sixth snow day. It seems with a day to make up, Metro is going to have some unhappy school children. So what else is new?

» Fox17 News might have a little bit more of a Chicago flair to it. Dominic Mancuso will be the new general manager for our local Fox affiliate. We just hope they don't change the logo twice like they did at WGN.

» Privatized business may end up paying for the newly proposed transit system.

» Duck River. One of Tennessee's most beautiful and ecologically diverse rivers. This month's National Geographic will feature Duck River in a story on diverse ecological places in the world.

» If our conditions don't clear up here, we may end up spending our next holiday like residents of our nation's capitol.

» Think texting is a waste of time? Tell that to Haiti who will receive over $32 Million dollars from text messaging donations.

» And finally, isn't Fred Thompson sweet? Here's a montage that should make you smile.

If you're even up reading this early enough, then you know that the snow/icy roads are keeping parts of the interstate shut down; which might mean for most of you... NO CLASS. Classes are scheduled to meet unless a teacher emails you. Here's the roundup:

» The Nashville Predator's owner David Freeman might be in a little bit of trouble. Tax trouble.

» Check and see what Twitter is saying about Lipscomb today.

» Downtown bars in Tennessee could soon be shut down for good.

» And this just goes to show that not everyone cares about Hollywood as much as Hollywood cares about Hollywood.

» And finally, in much-needed lighthearted news this week, a teenage boy flew over the Olympic restricted airspace yesterday. Authorities say it fits his profile.

Today is the beginning to a much-deserved weekend to probably most of you out there. Let's get to the roundup so that we can get to the start of our weekend!

» Former Jaguars receiver Matt Jones was offered a contract by the Tennessee Titans yesterday. Coaches are awaiting his decision.

» If you weren't at the John Mayer concert on Wednesday night at the Sommet Center, then you might have missed this awkward/sincere apology. Weird.

» Knoxville Pilot-CEO and Tennessee Governor hopeful Bill Haslam just released his first TV commercial.

» Haha. It's news like this that reminds us of why we're glad we're at Lipscomb.

» We're at least glad that state legislators didn't pass the resolution to honor the late King of Pop but it's still unreal that it even made it to the house.

» In an odd news story this week, a reported 1 million illegal immigrants left the country this year.

» And finally, check out this old scary man

Morning Roundup

» GM workers who were displaced due to the struggling economy seem to be picking right back up in Michigan.

» A new MTSU poll shows that people don't trust the government. Wait, did that change sometime in the last 70 years?

» NashvilleScene gives us the 10 new artists to watch in 2010.

» Speaking of music, Vanderbilt's Rites of Spring lineup was announced yesterday with acts like  Ben Harper, Phoenix and Passion Pit slated to perform this April.

» For those of you who commute to work and avoid potholes like Mario Kart Bananas, sorry, but it seems until the cold weather gets warmer we'll have to keep swerving.

» Google is now in the social networking business. But if you knew that, then how about this: Google is developing a broadband network for over 500,000.

» And finally, in related news, some people in the world don't love Google as much as others.

Good morning, LU! Happy Friday! Let's hope the "snow" that's supposed to come this weekend isn't like last weekend! Here's the Roundup.

» If you're planning on running the Country Music Marathon, so is the rest of Nashville! So far there are a record number of runners participating.

» We're a little jealous because local high schools are considering starting later, since "kids learn better when it isn't so early." This is why we avoid 8 o'clocks at all cost!

» If you're looking for Valentine's ideas maybe try White Castle? Apparently it's the thing to do this year.

» In case you're wary of where your milk comes from (?), not to worry. Our legislature just decided that milk 80% produced in Tennessee will now have the elite label of "Tennessee Prime Milk." Cool..

» Make sure you prepare this weekend by making shirts, signs, and other indicators of spirit for Monday's THINK PINK night. If you're in the Greek system, don't forget that there are prizes to be won for the most spirited club. Come support!

Mid-Week blues? Look at the bright side, the week's almost done! Here's the news:

Lost-Season-6-Poster.jpg

Well, you didn't mean to, but you've watched 5 seasons already and you might as well see it through. Watch the beginning of the end tonight at 7pm with fellow Lipscomb Losties in Arlos.  We're just guessing, but there will probably be free food too.

slater1.jpgJosh Slater drained a last second 3-pointer to give the Bisons a win over Campbell last night.  The basketball bisons are on a 3 game hot streak after beating Belmont, ETSU and Campbell in a series of very exciting games.  Slater has had an especially big week and was recognized yesterday as the ASUN player of the week.  The Bisons are home this week against North Florida and Jacksonville, and will be playing to be the top team in the ASUN.

Can you make yourself cry? Prove it.
Organize a foot race between you and your friends, from where you are right now to the nearest river. Winner gets to choose where you eat lunch.
What fast food chain consistently gets your order wrong?
Name some people who probably think you're an idiot.

No, these are not questions that WuLU editors came up with. These questions and ideas all come from askingcanbefun.tumblr.com. Each day, a new post has a question or idea to spark and make your day much more enjoyable. Take a look.

Today's question? What's the coolest thing you've hurdle-style jumped?
WuLU answer: Campus Safety Vehicle.

Morning Roundup

As the snow evaporates and hangs in the air, most of us are wondering, what does six more weeks of winter look like? Here's the roundup:

» Phil better not be predicting snow in the near-near future because Nashville's Public Work's team went through 4,700 tons of salt out of 7,500 this past weekend.

» Governor Phil Bredesen gave his last State of The State address last night at the Capitol Downtown. Remarks made during his address were focusing on big state budget cuts that could affect 800 people losing their jobs.

» If you think astronauts are incredible, then start watching Apollo 13 and and any space-horror movie you love because the President's new budget will most likely end men on the moon for a good while.

» Steve Jobs is still feeling the high after Apple's iPad announcement last week because his courage allowed him to rip Google and Adobe yesterday.

» Toyota is beginning its fixes their their malfunctioning accelerator pedal now.

» And finally, you might have heard the nominations for this year's Oscars, but we're more interested in this year's Razzies

Whoever did this, if you're reading this, PROPS TO YOU! This sculpture is sitting next to our other sculpture of the Bison. The only difference? This one is casually sitting. We are not only impressed by the talent and time that this must have taken, but also by the school spirit that our students possess. Way to go, LU!
Good morning, LU! Wow. WO-OW. It has been QUITE a weekend, and we aren't sure what today is looking like as far as the roads go, but maybe if we cross our fingers and say a little prayer we'll have another snow day? Best of luck. In the meantime, here's the Roundup!

» There is a $1 million effort under way to clear the icy roads of Tennessee. So far, we think it's going well but with extremely low temperatures at night, it's hard to keep what thawed from freezing over and putting us back at square one.

» Researchers say that the next possible step towards a cure for Type 1 Diabetes will be creating an artificial pancreas to replace patients' malfunctioning ones.

» Lesson learned from this snow storm: BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN SLEDDING. After hearing about several of our students with broken bones, staples due to accidents, and other injuries we were saddened to hear about another Tennessee sledding incident that ended in death.

» In other news, a Baptist group was arrested in Haiti for allegedly "trafficking" children. The Baptists say they were simply trying to do the right thing... but the government argues otherwise. Yikes!

» If you're a snake-lover (is that possible?), you may be out of luck. A new law is being discussed which will ban nine particular species of constrictor snakes from coming into the US, and will prevent any snake owners from taking their snakes across state lines. Sorry, they're just kind of dangerous.
