This was taken awhile ago, but come on. This is awesome! If that's not dedication, we don't know what is.
Good morning, LU! We're still waiting on "all that snow" that's supposed to be coming soon, but until then check out the Roundup!

» If you want an idea of how the next twenty-four hours are going to go, here's a pretty good idea. ...Basically, snow.

» Beginning next Fall, schools in Tennessee are allowed to teach about the Bible... Provided they follow the curriculum given.

» The Preds and the Sommet Group have finally called a truce. Until the Preds find a new naming partner, the arena will remain named the Sommet Center.

» Someone may have killed an old lottery winner, and then put his body in concrete. Not worth it.

» If you see a blue parking meter downtown pretty soon, put some money in it! These "Adopt-A-Meters" are fundraising to help reach out to the homeless community downtown. Way to go, Nashville. We support!

» The State of The Union address was made last night by President Obama. You can read local reactions here or the transcript itself here.

» For all of you movie-lovers out there, you might be interested to know that alien contact, hoverboards and androids are all going to find their way into this next decade according to movie history.

» Today will mark what Apple CEO Steve Jobs says is the most important thing he's ever been a part of.

» A new NBC-announced pilot probably won't be as good as the show Conan was just fired from. NBC, give Conan back. One question: if NBC fired Conan, WHY IS HE AGREEING TO DO A PILOT FOR THEM?

» And finally, yes... a shoe can now Tweet for you. If this is any sign of what the new year has to offer, we'll be facebooking from hamburgers and listening to iTunes through bathwater. Or not.

Sunday. 50s. Rain. Today. 30s. Flurries. What's the deal? Whatever, here's the roundup:

» THANK GOODNESS!!! Finally!

» Tonight is the Battle of The Boulevard v2 at the Curb Event Center tonight. But how about this nice write-up about Slater?

» Aol just purchased a local film company for their web-based endeavors. Also, in other news, Aol changed their branding. Take a look here at their new look.

» On the local level, a new study reveals that the stimulus is not saving construction jobs here in Tennessee.

» For all of you Apple lovers out there, there have been some recent photos released of what could be the new Apple tablet.

» And finally, President Obama told reporters yesterday, "I'd rather be a really good one-term president than a mediocre two-term president." He went on to say that most politicians feel their job is to get reelected rather than to solve problems and help people. President Obama will address the nation in his State of The Union address tomorrow night.

ROTB.jpgTonight marks our annual celebration of the Battle of the Boulevard, rightfully deemed the Running of the Bison. In honor of the game tomorrow against Belmont, we will be running through Green Hills making as much noise as possible, waking up our neighbors to let them know that yes, tomorrow we WILL beat Belmont.

If you've never been before it's a BLAST and will without a doubt be the highlight of your campus life experience at Lipscomb. The festivities will begin at 9:30pm and it is sure to last awhile. Come out to the Square and help us tell Nashville that we'll be the winners tomorrow!

This weekend, Lipscomb University's chapter of  Society of Composers Inc. (SCI) went to the Nashville Symphony and got to meet world famous composer/conductor Krzystof Penderecki. Penderecki was conducting two of his own pieces with the Nashville Symphony along with Shostakovitch's Symphony No. 6. The students and faculty got to meet Penderecki after the concert for a private meet and greet thanks to Lipscomb Music Faculty Member (and First chair, Second Violin Symphony Member) Carrie Wann-Bailey.

Good morning, LU! Welcome back to the third week of school (it feels longer, doesn't it?). Here's the Roundup!

» A cat who lived at an American base in Iraq was rescued with a fundraiser and brought back to America. The cat, Sgt. Ballz, will serve as pet of Sergeant Wall. Sooo... what else are we doing over there?

In case you didn't hear yesterday, there was some pretty severe weather all over parts of Middle Tennessee. This photo is of the dorms at Tennessee Tech. Yowzahh!
Good morning, LU! It's another rainy day here in Nashville, but at least it's somewhat warm! Here's the Roundup.

» If you're looking for your chance to get discovered... or just be able to say "Hey, that's me!" in a bigtime motion picture, be at Municipal Auditorium on February 2nd. The Gwyneth Paltrow/Tim McGraw movie needs extras!

» Did you know that if your car is damaged due to a pothole, you can get TDOT to help pay for the repairs? It's true!

» Tennessee is getting up in arms about voting fraud. Convicted felons apparently keep voting, even though it says on the ballot that it is a $6,000 fine and up to six years in prison ... So why don't we just arrest them? Good question. What's worst is that people are also voting on behalf of dead people. Now how exactly does this happen...?

» Our state is second in meth lab busts. On the bright side, at least it's second in busts and not just labs... Right?

» If you're looking for some good music and a great cause, there is a benefit concert for Haiti at the Factory in Franklin tonight. 7pm, free admission but a $20 donation is suggested.

Morning Roundup

Yuck. Who's tired of the rain yet? Yes we know that it makes the grass and flowers grow, but it also makes Nashville drivers much more dumb and reckless. Sigh, here's the roundup:

» A new sewage plant is being built in Knoxville. Locals are hopeful that they can name the smelly plant after Lane Kiffin. Ouch.

» The City Paper is reporting that this weekend in sports will be a big one here at LU. Duh.

» Nashville residents are doing their best to keep the Nashville Fairgrounds alive. Its fate is undetermined currently, but mayor Karl Dean is trying to shut it down.

» Newly elected senator Scott Brown wants his seat right now even though it may take up to two weeks to count every vote. His democratic opponent, Martha Coakley succeeded defeat to Brown on Tuesday night, but voting officials want to count every ballot.

» In sad music news today, The Killers have announced that they are going on a hiatus after a 2-year touring stint since the release of their third album, Day and Age.

» And finally, after 7 months destroying late-night TV, Conan is leaving NBC. Not only is he leaving, but he is supplementing the severance his staff would have been receiving from NBC, out of his own pocket. Classy indeed.

Morning Roundup

As most students are reluctant to start classes again today, we hope you enjoyed your day off yesterday and took some time to remember MLK. Here's the roundup:

» Memphis' LeBonheur Children's Medical Center are setting a team up to assist in relief efforts in Haiti per a federal request from the secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The team will be primarily working with younger children and injuries that were caused by crushing.

» If you were in the right place at the right time, you might have been asked a bunch of questions by a federal employee yesterday. No, we're not talking about an interrogation but rather the 2010 Census.

» The proposed Music City Center will either pass or fail today after a vote by Metro Councilmen. 20 votes are needed for the majority to rule in favor to move forward with the estimated $585 million dollar building.

» You may remember WuLU reporting this story late last year, but it seems that the Nissan LEAF may not use an artificial exhaust noise after all. Initially, drivers wanted the driving pleasure of an exhaust noise, but now it seems due to market research that drivers enjoy the silence while operating the vehicle.

» Today will be an important day in Massachusetts. The late Ted Kennedy's senate seat is open, and Scott Brown maybe the next senator. This seat has long been held by a Democrat, and if filled by Brown, may stop the Health Care Bill in its tracks. As Slatest reports, senate Democrats are trying to find ways to push the Bill through before a winner is named. Sounds sinister. Voting ends at 8pm.

» And finally, it seems its official. Conan's last show will be January 22, 2010. NBC will pay Conan $32.5 million to walk away as well as severance for all of the employees. That comes to a whopping estimated $40 million. It will be a sad day in late night TV for sure.

Nashville made the cut to be considered for the FIFA World Cup in 2018 or 2022. This shot was taken right after prominent Nashville business and goverment leaders learned that Nashville was still in the running. In the Fall, FIFA representatives will do a site visit of Nashville to see if it would be an acceptable location to make the second round of cuts.

Blue skies and degrees in the teens are making for a beautiful morning. Here's the roundup:

» As most of you heard probably via Twitter last night, Head coach Lane Kiffin is leaving UT to be the head coach at Southern Cal.

» In more meaningful news, yesterday Nashville leaders huddled around a flat screen TV at LP Field waiting to hear if Nashville was still in the running for the FIFA World Cup in 2018 or 2022. We'll let the picture answer the question.

» Numerous dead bodies were found at RIvergate Mall this week. And it was all planned.

» If you work downtown currently or go there to get studying done, then you're in luck. The Nashville Technology Council announced this week that they will be providing free wireless internet on Broadway, stemming from the Hard Rock Cafe to The Sommet Center. Recent trends in tourism to downtown is the main cause for this new infrastructure.

» Those dang IP addresses will eventually catch up with you. Even from Facebook. Just ask Craig "Lazie" Lynch.

» NBC FAIL. You might want to read this letter from Conan O'Brien. It'll explain everything.

» And finally, in other Facebook news, founder and CEO Mark Zuckerburg says people don't care about their privacy on the internet?

Overcast skies don't reflect the mood here at Lipscomb this morning. Our Men Bisons beat Belmont in the first half of the Battle of The Boulevard last night 64-53 . We're proud of them and especially the fans who helped bring Lipscomb the victory last night. Here's the roundup:

» Have business downtown you need to attend to? Well, make sure you avoid 2nd Avenue and some other streets close to the river. Due to low temperatures, a water main downtown burst yesterday, throwing off Nashville commerce and business.

» Yesterday, Metro Council members held an open meeting to the public to hear how the greater Nashville area felt about the proposed Music City Center. Councilman Mike Jameson posed some tough questions to Metro about the feasibility of the convention center adding jobs and maintaining them through the economy.

» For those celebrity watchers in Nashville, be aware. Gwyneth Paltrow and Tim McGraw will be here this next week to begin filming on a Screen Gems major motion picture.

» As his new found coaching career will make its way to the pubic eye soon, Mark McGuire announced yesterday that he did use performance enhancing drugs.

» Bono-founded-Humanitarian-organization ONE released a video of their recap of 2009. It's pretty inspiring.

» And finally, if you had a flight scheduled to leave this morning, chances are it was delayed or cancelled due to a fire in the air traffic control tower. The fire was put out, and by 7:30am, flights resumed appropriately.
Alright, LU. It's back to school AND back to service! If you're looking for some ways to get involved this week in our community, check out the opportunities below!

» For a job with no required skillset, try helping out at West Nashville's United Methodist Church this Thursday feeding meals to the hungry. All that's involved is help setting up, serving, and cleaning up afterwards. More information here.

» Second Harvest Food Bank is always looking for help sorting food, and they're especially looking for it this Saturday! More information here.

» If you're a decent tutor, the Nashville Adult Literacy Council is looking for volunteer tutors, and they're having a training session coming up! More information here.

So it's our big game tonight, and you can expect some big plans. We're pumped for another chance to beat our rival at our favorite Lipscomb sport - basketball. Check out what the Tennessean has to say about the Battle of the Boulevard!
Good morning, LU! So it's the first day of classes and we hope you're ready to dive back into another semester here at LU. But before you hit the books, here's the Roundup!

» Among other incidents due to the ice this past week, a semi was overturned on I-65 and spilled thousands of frozen chicken nuggets all over the highway. Come on, that's funny.

» If you've ever enjoyed Lonnie's Karaoke Bar and you've heard a Fiona Apple song played, you better have soaked it in because it apparently was illegal. Fiona is suing Lonnie's Karaoke Bar because they haven't paid licensing fees in years, and, well, she's upset about it.

» Our Alaskan friends built an ice sculpture of Al Gore to make the statement that global warming must not exist if building an ice sculpture is possible. ...Clever, guys.

» Don't forget that Battle of the Boulevard is tonight and we're looking forward to a packed house and a healthy win in the battle against Belmont!

» Be careful of what you eat at ethnic restaurants... Won Feng was a distribution plant for several ethnic restaurants across middle Tennessee and was shut down by the FDA due to a massive rat infestation. Yikes!

» If you're looking into starting your own business after graduation, you're in luck! Tennessee is the 13th best for small businesses. Bottom line, don't leave Tennessee. ...Unless it's for somewhere higher on the list...

Morning Roundup

Hello Everyone! We are back and like most of you, gearing up for the new year. We hope your holiday season was great and full of time spend with family and friends. But before we get to sentimental, we'll get into the roundup:

» For those of you who love the Americanized NBC success The Office, you might be interested to know that Creed Bratton Has recorded a new record right here in Music City. He is a part of the country-inspired group Grass Roots. The LP should be available next month.

» The Convention Center Authority approved financing for Music City Center yesterday. Metro Council will vote for proceeding on January 19.

» H&M announced that they will no longer destroy unsold clothing items, but rather donate them to charities.

» Two people. Jay Leno. Conan O'Brien. Which one of these people emits thoughts of laughter, joy, and great late-night television? Well, NBC realized the err of their ways by taking Jay Leno to an earlier time slot. On Feb. 1, Jay Leno will take back his 11:30 time slot which means.... where will Conan go?

» Unless you're too busy watching Jersey Shore, then you know that America was threatened Christmas Day by a would-be bomber aboard a flight arriving into Detroit. President Obama, who has taken heat recently for not responding appropriately, announced yesterday that he is ordering security improvements across the board to combat terrorism.

» And finally, be ready to dawn yourself in purple and gold on the first day of school as it is the first Battle of The Boulevard this season held in Allen Arena.
