Have a happy break from all of us here at WuLU, and for your viewing pleasure, here's a link to the Target YouTube account because if you haven't seen the Target commercials this Christmas you need to. They're hilarous, and never seem to get old. Happy Holidays and we'll see you in a month!

Be careful if you're out today, there is a wind advisory and it's getting pretty gusty. But at least it's not raining, right?
Good morning, LU! So it's finally the last day of Fall semester classes and we can't say we're too disappointed. Enjoy it - Christmas will be here before we know it! Here's the Roundup.

» Andrew Jackson's home is about to receive a well-deserved $1 million facelift.

» A woman who recently visited Jerusalem "caught a picture of Jesus" while she was there. It's an interesting shot, but we have to wonder...

» Whooping cranes are visiting in Tennessee right now, as they are temporarily stopped during a migration learning trip. They follow a plane, and the trainers are hoping they will learn the migration route as a result.

» We're a little jealous of our neighbors... and here's why.

» Free Chipotle tomorrow night at the new Green Hills location for Lipscomb students only!! 5-8pm by Donut Den. This Chipotle doesn't officially open it's doors to the public until Friday, so come enjoy burritos and thank the workers there for treating!

» Congratulations to all on THE LAST DAY OF FALL SEMESTER CLASSES!!!

Here's the roundup:

» Mars Hill Pastor and founder Rob Bell will be speaking tomorrow night at War Memorial Auditorium about his new book Drops Like Stars and the good in suffering.

» If talk of a new convention center wasn't enough to get your stress level even higher this holiday season, some are asking "where is our new federal courthouse?" Well, surprise or not, this project has been in the making for years: try almost 10 years.

» It looks like the Predators will keep Sommet on the outside of their arena. The Nashville Arena will have to wait to dawn the facade of the building,... for the second time.

» H1N1 is on the downward "smoldering" slope here in Tennessee. Scientists original calculations were much higher than what played out over the past few months.

» Facebook recently revealed plans to create an advisory board that targets registered sex offenders and sexual online predators.

» This is just too funny. Global warming? More like, limo seat warmers.

» And finally, NES will be holding a Clean Energy Forum tonight in Shamblim.

Larry Alexander graduated from Lipscomb University in 1996 with a double major in Exercise Science and Psychology. He is now an author and the Co-Founder and Program Director of ChallengePoint.

Now, for the questions...

WULU: Mr. Alexander, why a double major? How did you make that decision?

MR. A: I started my freshman year as a math major (at least in my mind) because my mom informed me I needed to be an engineer and make lots of money. After my Trigonometry final though, I realized I hated math and swore to never take another course. Being a college athlete, I became interested in Physical Therapy and decided to pursue Exercise Science. My freshman year I had taken Psychology 101 with Dr. Roy Hamley. I loved his teaching style so much that I kept taking his classes until my junior year when I realized I just needed four more classes to have a Psychology major. In the end, I majored in both, which happened to be the groundwork for Therapeutic Recreation - the field I pursued in graduate school at University of Tennessee.

WULU: What were some of the best experiences you had in college?

MR. A: I ran track at Lipscomb (primarily the 400m) and without doubt my best experiences involved the camaraderie I shared with my teammates. We had little publicity back then and few fans, so when you won your event at the Vanderbilt Invitational, it was your teammates who cheered you on. When you were stressed out from too many tests, it was your teammates who pirated the key to the athletic training room where we had access to the whirlpool and indoor swimming pool at 2 AM. When you accidentally poured a five-gallon bucket of water off High Rise and "baptized" an unsuspecting president of a social club along with his freshly folded laundry, and now had a mob of Greek letters chasing you, it's your teammates, along with the basketball team, baseball team and golf team, who defended you. Ah... those were the days.

Good morning, LU! We're in the home stretch, so hang in there! And take a minute to relax and read the Roundup.

» If you were thinking about heading up to NYC for New Years, but couldn't decide if it's worth the hassle, it's not! Now that Nashville's creating their own New Years NYC-style bash, you can enjoy all the festivities in your own town!

» And for those who were missing the Hard Rock Cafe during their renovations, good news! They're back and better than ever - with a brand new music venue to boot!

» If you weren't at the ground-breaking, it went really well. Both the Art and Engineering Departments are stoked and so are the students! Hopefully by this time next year, the Hughes Center will be well broken in from a semester of classes!

» There is a Christmas Concert on campus tonight - 7:30pm in Alumni, it should be awesome!

» If you're wary of rain, don't worry we've got you covered. It looks like that won't be happening until tomorrow... Yikes.

» And if you missed the game this weekend, you didn't miss much. We lost.

Since we didn't get to feature this sooner, this is a shot from the Lighting of the Green that took place on Tuesday. If you don't know who this particular woman is, then you obviously weren't there and, well, that's ashame. This is Brenda Lee and she is the ORIGINAL singer of "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree." And yes, she did sing it at Lighting of the Green!
Good morning, LU! Sorry we've been a little spotty lately - seems that the cold weather has gotten to us. But for your Friday, here's the Roundup!

» In news on the Sommet Group vs. Predators (not to be confused with Alien vs. Predator...), the name is Nashville Arena once again. Although the Sommet Group is trying to work out a deal with the Predators, that hasn't quite been figured out yet.

» A man who tried to rob a convenience store, but was shown mercy by the manager, sent the manager a note with $50 and thanked him for his kindness. Now how often does THAT happen?!

» Apparently some very interesting bike racks are coming to Nashville... designs are courtesy of local artists, and some of them are pretty interesting.

» Once again, don't forget about the groundbreaking! At 1pm today behind Crisman, it's a step towards an even brighter future for Lipscomb (and our arts and sciences majors)!

Good morning Lipscomb! Today seems to be as overcast and wet as yesterday. Good thing school is almost out. Here's the roundup:

» How is Nashville going to pay for the proposed Music City Center? That has a price tag of $585 million? Mayor Karl Dean will propose his plan to the metro city council later today.

» You may or may not care to know this, but the Terminator franchise is bankrupt. Maybe Christian will have another on-set freak out somewhere else.

» Say goodbye to Nashville Shores. And hello to Tennessee's widest lazy river, brought to you by two ex-Six Flag's executives.

» Tennessee U.S. House Representatives are split on Obama's speech made Monday night about sending more troops into the war in the Middle East. Some agree. Some disagree. Either way, most don't have a definitive stance on the issue. Surprised?

» A Gay Marriage senate vote in New York lost 38-24 this week. If it had passed, gay marriage would have been legalized in the state of New York.

» The company who received salvation from future taxpayers to come with big bucks from the US Stimulus package, just fired their CEO because he wasn't turning the company fast enough. GM CEO Fritz Henderson stepped down so the American car giant can try to: make a better car, make money, pay the US government back, and make a better car.

» And finally, The Hughes Center groundbreaking will be tomorrow behind Crisman. The Hughes Center will house the department of art and some college of engineering students. Click here to read more about the building.

Morning Roundup

Today marks the first day of December, thus ringing in the Christmas season. Today also is World Aids Day, bringing awareness to the global epidemic. Here's the roundup:

» An announcement made yesterday might bring some commerce to Nashville. Crow Holdings has proposed to renovate and build a $255 million dollar, 12-story Medical Mart on top of our existing convention center. This would bring an estimated 150,000 visitors to Nashville annually.

» The GEC, no, Sommet Center, no... Well, we don't know what it's name is now. The Nashville Predators have ended their contract with Franklin-based Sommet Group as being the naming sponsor of the arena. For the right price, someone will have the rights, ... for another 2 years at least.

» Good acoustics may not require amplifiers at all. In this WPLN audio feature, the Downtown Presbyterian Church's unique egyptian architecture lends itself to be a platform for great musical artists.

» Obama will send 34,000 troops to Afghanistan. This announcement will come officially tonight from the President's official TV address to the nation from West Point. Allied forces will be sending around 5,000 troops as well.

» For $200,000, you can fly into space with Virgin Airlines CEO Richard Branson. Flights begin in early 2010.

» And finally, NBC & MSNBC anchor John Seigenthaler, Jr. will be kicking off the department of communication's MediaMaster series tomorrow night in Shamblin Theater at 8:00pm.
